40 years ago: Kansas legislature considers helmet law

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Feb. 4, 1972:

  • A bill requiring motorcyclists to wear helmets and goggles had been passed by the Kansas Senate and was now being considered by the House. According to the bill’s sponsors, the new state law was necessary to bring Kansas in line with federal standards. Currently those motorcyclists over age 21 were not required to wear helmets, and goggles were not required.
  • The Association of University Residence Halls at Kansas University were planning a few informal dinners for legislators. It was hoped that the events would give students and lawmakers a chance to visit. A spokesperson from AURH said that the organization was also giving interested students a chance to join a feedback committee to study the possible conversion of Hashinger Hall to a residence hall specifically designed for students in the creative arts.
