From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 21, 1972:
- The Lawrence Police Department this week began screening applications to fill four vacancies on the force created by the resignations of two detectives and two patrolmen. Detectives Gale Pinegar and Larry Good were leaving to go to work as partners in a cabinet-making business, while patrolmen Jeff Herman was planning to join the Olathe police department and Vernon Nichols was joining the news staff of WDAF-TV in Kansas City.
- The first day of winter 1972 began on a mild note today, compared to the freezing weather experienced by the area in preceding weeks. The National Weather Service was forecasting lows in the upper 20s to lower 30s in the Lawrence area tonight, with highs nearing 50 for the weekend.

Who's Nichols?

I beg your pardon, cheeseburger. Patrolman Vernon Nichols was the victim of over-editing on my part.
I tried to find record of him at WDAF, but no luck. I wonder if he changed his name when he joined the staff there?

Thank you. I was trying to see if the name sounded familiar, but it doesn't.
