25 years ago: Funds being raised for heating-bill assistance

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 17, 1987:

  • Fundraising efforts by the Warm Hearts organization were moving right along, according to group treasurer Warren Rhodes. About $27,300 had been collected toward this winter’s $60,000 goal. The funds were to help families in need with their heating bills.
  • Movies showing in Lawrence theaters this week included “The Princess Bride” at the Granada and “The Running Man” at the Varsity. The Hillcrest was showing “Wall Street,” “Baby Boom,” “Planes, Trains and Automobiles,” Fatal Attraction,” and “Throw Momma From the Train.” Showings of the Goldie Hawn – Kurt Russell movie “Overboard” were scheduled to start this week.
