From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 13, 1912:

• “Everyone in Lawrence will take interest in the fact that the Journal-World has the largest daily circulation of any daily newspaper in Kansas published in a town the size of Lawrence. The sworn statement of circulation filed with the postal department on October 1st and published in the Journal-World on October 3rd showed an average sworn daily circulation of 5,189 for the six months preceding October 1st, 1912…. A personal canvass by the solicitors last summer proved conclusively that the Journal-World each day entered about ninety-five out of every one-hundred homes in Douglas county.”
• “Two hundred and fifty of the Progressive Party of Douglas County gathered last night in I.O.O.F. Hall, ate of the banquet that was served and heard the doctrines of the party expounded and just simply celebrated, and it was a great celebration for the Bull Moose contingent of this county. The Hall was filled and many were necessarily turned away because of the lack of room and eats. The committee had not anticipated such a crowd as this, but it came, the Bull Moosers came out to observe the victories that they had already won.”
• “The city of Lawrence will be canvassed next week for the purpose of securing signers to the petitions asking the mayor and the city council to refer the matter of a change to commission government to the people of the city for a vote…. This is the first step that is necessary to secure commission government for a city. After the petition has received the required number of signers, 40 per cent of the voters, the next stop must be taken by the city council.”
