40 years ago: Vandals rob local residents of pine tree

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Dec. 8, 1972:

  • Dr. and Mrs. Paul Kincaid, 2104 Kasold, had planted a number of pine trees at their house about 10 years previously and had watched them grow to a fairly large size, only to suffer disappointment when vandals stole one of them. During the previous evening, someone apparently in search of a free Christmas tree had cut down a large tree in the front of the property. Another resident in the area had lost a tree under similar circumstances the previous year.
  • A 13-year-old junior high student had reported to the Kansas University Security and Parking Division that $2 in change had been taken from him in a strong arm robbery during the KU basketball game on a recent night. The boy told officers that he had been selling concessions on the third floor of Allen Fieldhouse when he was approached by a group of juveniles, two of whom had grabbed him while another took the money from his apron.
