Editorial: Holiday tradition

Thanks to all who work to stage the popular horse-drawn holiday parade in downtown Lawrence.

Mild weather encouraged a huge crowd Saturday at what has become a signature event of the holiday season in Lawrence, the 20th annual Lawrence Old-Fashioned Christmas Parade.

The parade drew more than a thousand riders, many in period costumes, on horseback and in wagons and buggies decorated for the season.

The event is one of the few horse-drawn parades in the Midwest and is a popular event with Lawrence residents and visitors. As the name indicates, it’s one of the best ways to enjoy a piece of old-fashioned charm amid an increasingly hectic and commercial holiday season.

Thanks to the organizers and sponsors for preserving this long-standing tradition for the Lawrence community.
