20-year-old Ottawa man charged with kidnapping, robbery

A 20-year-old former Ottawa man was charged Monday in Douglas County District Court with eight offenses stemming from a Jan. 10 robbery in Lawrence.

Dustin Jamal Burnett was charged with four counts of kidnapping and four robbery charges.

Burnett — who was transported from a Missouri jail on Friday — is the fourth person arrested in the case, which involved the robbery of four people in the 1700 block of West 19th Street.

According to police, the suspects threatened the victims with weapons.

The other suspects, all Ottawa men, have since been arrested and convicted.

Burnett is being held on a $50,000 bond. Depending on his criminal history, Burnett could face more than 20 years in prison if convicted of kidnapping.
