25 years ago: Busy night on campus possibly includes gunfire

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 31, 1987:

Kansas University police were investigating recent incidents which may have involved firearms. At 1:20 a.m. on a recent Saturday, two officers reported that they had heard shots fired from the 1200 block of Oread as they were escorting people out of the Kansas Union after a fraternity party. No one had been injured in the incident and the officers were unable to find any evidence. Approximately 40 minutes later, KU police dispatch had received a call from residents at the Jayhawker Towers apartments who said that armed persons were getting out of a car at the complex. An investigation at the site produced no results. The callers had also attended the earlier party, but police were not sure if the two incidents were related.
