Suspect in several crimes arrested after foot chase near Kasold Drive and Clinton Parkway

A Lawrence police officer conducting a burglary investigation Tuesday afternoon arrested a Lawrence man after a foot chase near Kasold Drive and Clinton Parkway.

Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman, said the suspect also had an outstanding municipal court warrant for his arrest, a warrant from the Kansas Department of Corrections, a pending domestic battery charge and two pending misdemeanor theft charges.

The officer at 1:20 p.m. was seeking to talk to the man as part of the burglary investigation when the suspect, Geoffry Scott Beers, 37, ran from him.

Officers set up a perimeter and eventually found the suspect hiding under a deck a few blocks south of Kasold Drive and Clinton Parkway, McKinley said.

Officers also recovered other items the suspect had discarded during the incident, and believed they were stolen property. Beers was taken to the Douglas County Jail.
