From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 19, 1987:
- About 30 residents of the Schwegler neighborhood had met this week to discuss with city commissioners the issues of drainage, code enforcement, and traffic in the area. The get-together was the third in a series of problem-solving meetings in different neighborhoods. The Schwegler neighborhood, made up almost entirely of single-family homes, was located directly south of the Kansas University campus and west of the Naismith drainage ditch.
- The planned southwest Lawrence trafficway received official support from the city commission for the first time since the April 7 elections. The commission voted 4-1, with Commissioner Dennis Constance opposed, to approve its version of a joint city-county resolution outlining planning policies for the proposed road.
