Salt Lake City ? Lawrence professional cyclist Joseph Schmalz placed 73rd in the fifth stage of the Tour of Utah and moved up to 79th in the overall standings on Saturday.

Schmalz also moved up to 15th in the competition for the best young rider after the fifth stage, a 101.1-mile ride.
