25 years ago: Research park to include non-research businesses

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Aug. 12, 1987:

  • After nearly two hours of debate at a city commission meeting, the owners of University and Corporate Research Park had narrowly won approval of their request to expand the types of businesses allowed in the park. Commissioner had voted 3-2, with Mike Rundle and Bob Schumm opposed, to permit businesses that would provide support for the park, such as advertising, legal advice, and venture capital.
  • As the decade was just a few years from ending, Hollywood insiders were predicting the big stars for the 1990s. According to an Associated Press article, Kathleen Turner and Debra Winger would be among the biggest movie stars, along with Sigourney Weaver, Kelly McGillis, and Molly Ringwald.
