Hallmark movie faces the music

One of the “Designing Women” stars in a heart-tugger right out of “Glee” and “High School Musical” by way of “The Brady Bunch” in the 2012 message movie “The Music Teacher” (8 p.m., Hallmark).

When a music teacher (Annie Potts) has funding for her afterschool program cut, her former students — now successful professionals in their early 30s — band together to raise money to save the day. How? By putting on a show!

This film was produced in partnership with VH1’s “Save the Music” foundation that raises money to save and promote school music programs. Defending the arts against budget cuts was also a cause frequently espoused by the late composer Marvin Hamlisch (“The Way We Were,” ”A Chorus Line”), who died earlier this week.
