Homeless shelter sets groundbreaking

“We’re excited,” shelter director Loring Henderson said of the move that’s been several years in the making. “At long last.”

The new location will increase the shelter’s capacity to 125 beds, compared to the 75-bed capacity at the current shelter at 214 W. 10th St. Funding for the renovations and purchase of the property, estimated to cost $2.7 million, came from a variety of donors and grants.

B.A. Green Construction will be handling the renovations, which are expected to be complete by Dec. 21. Henderson said they did not yet have a date for when the shelter will move to the new location.
