Lawrence police arrested a 36-year-old Lawrence man Thursday night after a chase with officers in the southeastern part of the city, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a police spokesman.
An employee of Taco John’s, 2309 Haskell Ave., called police around 9:30 p.m. because the employee had observed a man ducking down inside a blue Toyota pickup truck, and the worker was concerned the restaurant was about to be robbed, McKinley said. The man later fled on foot, and officers and a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper caught him a short time later in the area.
Police discovered the man was inside a 1994 Toyota truck reported stolen at 3:50 a.m. Thursday from the 900 block of East 28th Street. Officers were examining property inside the vehicle because they believed it possibly was from another burglary, McKinley said.
The man, Geoffry S. Beers was booked into jail on charges of theft and obstruction. Prosecutors Friday only charged him with theft, and a judge set his bond at $1,500. According to the Kansas Department of Corrections, Beers is on parole for a March 2007 Douglas County robbery conviction.

Kudos to the vigilant Taco John's employee who called the police. She or he may well have prevented a traumatizing robbery from occurring, given the suspect's other recent actions. I hope Taco John's recognizes this person for meritorious service.

So a judge will set a $500 bond and this fool will be right back on the streets doing the same thing. Probably a third of all these burglary arrests are made on someone out on bond and yet they just keep lettin em go. Way to keep your head in the game taco john's, folks like you keep the riff raff in check, not the courts.

And seeing this guy's name, the Taco Person made a very good call. S/He should be rewarded as they probably did save the store a robbery. Hope they revoke his parole (again) and he gets some more time for this (but, probably not likely).

about time the worm was picked up. He needed to be before someone seriously hurt the man. He has been doing this kind of stuff since he could walk. He seriously has a problem like stealing instead of working for what you have or want. Known him since he was born and he is bad news people. Congrats to the Taco John employee!!!!! Think I will have a taco for dinner tonight. He should not be allowed to bond out.

Cut off a finger. Next conviction, another finger. The problem will solve itself in due time.

All 10 fingers, toes, teeth, and I still believe he'd find a way.
