40 years ago: Lawrence represented at Big Eight Cities conference

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 25, 1972:

  • Ten Lawrence representatives were planning to attend the annual Big Eight Cities Conference in Lincoln, Nebraska. The two-day conference was designed to bring together representatives of the Chambers of Commerce, the universities, the news media, and the city governments of each of the cities where Big Eight schools were located. Topics this year were to include university financing, community resources, campus security, and drugs and sex on campus.
  • The public opening of construction bids for the Clinton Reservoir dam embankment, spillway, and outlet works had been postponed for the second time, this time until May 12.
