A 24-year-old Lawrence man was arrested Tuesday morning after he was accused of driving two children to school while he was intoxicated, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman.

An officer about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday stopped the driver in the 1600 block of University Drive for a stop sign violation. He was driving two children, ages 6 and 8, to school, and upon investigation officers determined the man was intoxicated, McKinley said. He was arrested on charges of child endangerment, DUI, no driver’s license, transporting an open container, no proof of insurance and a stop sign violation.

Douglas County prosecutors had not filed formal charges against the man Tuesday, and he remained in the Douglas County Jail as of Tuesday evening. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.

It amazes me as to how many really stupid people walk this planet and I mean brain-dead stupid people. They hear words, but for some reason their minds have not developed enough to comprehend them. So sad.

If the kids drove him to drink, can he not drive them drunk? What a turdburger hope the kiddies do not grow up to be like the old man

Are they sure the open container was his? Did they breathalyze the kids? Maybe he's covering for them. Can we really trust kids?

He needs to marry the dog celebrity reporter and then breed kids for some education lab experiment.

"Pity the children."- cheesehead Bleck. Could you rephrase that? It sounds like some drivel out of "Night of the Hunter", a horrible movie I saw on TCM. They gave it 4 stars, I guess because Charles Laughton directed it. I love Robert Mitchum, but even he stunk. And that awful drivel from Lillian Gish at the end: My soul is humble when I see the way little ones accept their lot. Lord save little children. The wind blows and the rains are cold... yet they abide. They abide and they endure.

Bleck! Bleck!

This sort of thing makes me very, very angry. Sure, adults have the right to drink, but they do not have the right to drive drunk, and never to drive defenseless children while drunk!!

Some critical questions are was his the kids' dad? Mom's boyfriend or friend? Did she know her children were being driven to school by a damn drunk, or not?

Pity the children.

And he retains his right to father as many children as he possibly can.

I've heard that using mouthwash before taking a breathalyzer can cause a false positive.
