Lawrence man arrested after running from police

A 34-year-old Lawrence man was arrested on several charges early Wednesday after he ran from police who had responded to a disturbance around 2:15 a.m. in the 400 block of Maine Street, said Sgt. Trent McKinley, a Lawrence police spokesman.

The man, Shane Michael Williams, was eventually apprehended, but as he was being transported to the Douglas County Jail, he caused $500 in damage to a metal bracket on the back door of the prisoner transport van and the lens on the video monitoring system in the vehicle, McKinley said. Williams was charged in municipal court with criminal damage, consuming alcohol in public and interference with duties of an officer, according to jail records. He was also served Thursday with eight failure to appear warrants in municipal court cases.
