Police investigating armed robbery on Iowa Street

Lawrence police are looking for three suspects after a man was robbed at gunpoint Thursday afternoon after cashing a check near 23rd and Iowa streets.

Sgt. Trent McKinley said the victim he alleged the robbery occurred about 1:45 p.m. after he left Cash ‘n Go, 2540 Iowa. Police were called about 1:50 p.m. by the victim in at a phone in the 2300 block of Iowa Street. The robbery did not occur inside the business.

McKinley said the man was acquainted with the three suspects and got into a vehicle, described as a white Ford Explorer, after he cashed the check. The men then used a handgun to rob the man, and they let him out of the vehicle in the area.

McKinley said police were looking for three black males associated with the vehicle. Initially one suspect was described as being heavy set and wearing a gray shirt, and another suspect was said to be skinnier wearing a plaid shirt.

No injuries were reported. Police did not release the amount of money taken.

“Anyone who had been in that area and seen any of this, we would encourage them to call us and let us know what they saw,” McKinley said.
