Aquahawks openings: The Lawrence Aquahawks swimming team is always accepting new members. The Aquahawks are a year-round USA Swimming-sponsored competitive swim team. The Aquahawks offer a swim lesson program and competitive swim team for all ages. The Aquahawks are coached by professional coaches with weekly practices geared toward a variety of skill levels. FUNdamental Softball: Learn the proper mechanics and techniques to playing softball. KU soccer camps: Kansas University will hold several youth soccer camps this summer. A Weekicks Camp for boys and girls in grades K-5 will run 9-11:30 a.m. June 11-15. A Day Camp for boys and girls grades 5-8 will run 9 a.m.-4 p.m. June 11-15. Girls Residential and Team Camps run July 13-16 and July 17-20 for girls in grades 4-12. World Team Tennis: The 2012 Spring World Team Tennis Leagues begin April 29 for the 3.5 division and May 1 for the 4.0 division. Online registration is required at WTT. Youth football camp: The Lawrence/Free State youth football camp will be Monday, June 25 through Wednesday, June 27 at Lawrence High School. The camp is for children in third through eighth grades. Running clinic: Good Form Running Clinic at Garry Gribble’s Running Sports (839 Mass. Street) will be 6-7 p.m. April 24. Shoreline Shuffle: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the fourth annual “Shoreline Shuffle 5K Trail Run” on May 5 on Clinton Lake’s North Shore Trails. The Shoreline Shuffle begins and ends at the southwest corner of Campground One, in Clinton Lake State Park. The marked course includes difficult rocky, root-bound trails; smooth, flat, easy trails, scenic lake views; and long shady stretches through old-growth forest. The race begins at 8 a.m., with race-day registration and check-in starting at 7 a.m. The race entry form and on-line registration are both available at www.Lawrencetrailhawks.com.

Soccer tryouts: K.C. Core West Soccer Club will hold tryouts this spring for boys and girls teams (U7 to U14/15), fall 2012 high school girls and spring 2013 high school boys. Volleyball clinic: Lawrence Parks and Rec will hold a volleyball clinic for girls in fourth through eighth grades on April 21 and 28 and May 5 at the East Lawrence Recreation Center, 1245 East 15th Street. The clinic will run 9-10:45 a.m. for fourth-sixth grades and 11 a.m.-1 p.m. for sixth-through eighth. Cost is $50 per girl and includes a T-shirt. Pre-registration is required. Deadline is April 16. Baldwin Shootout: The Baldwin Shootout, a 3-on-3 basketball tournament for high school-age players and adults, will be held Saturday, May 5. KU football clinic: Kansas University football will host a free clinic for children grades 1-6 from 10-11 a.m. on April 28. The “Train Like A Jayhawk” kid’s clinic will take place prior to the team’s annual Spring Game and will include several stations of drills taught by the KU players. The one-hour clinic will take place on the practice fields adjacent to Memorial Stadium on the southeast corner. Each participant will receive a free T-shirt and an opportunity to get autographs from players.

Goodwin honored: Bethany College wrestler Brandon Goodwin, a senior from Lawrence, has earned the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics/National Wrestling Coaches Association All-Academic Award for the 2011-2012 season. Goodwin has a 3.32 grade-point average. He is the son of Jeanene Goodwin and is majoring in elementary education.
