KU track solid despite weather

? Despite gusty winds and a sand storm, Kansas University’s 4X100-meter relay team set a school record on Saturday at the UTEP Invitational.

Paris Daniels, Francine Simpson, Denesha Morris and Diamond Dixon won in 44.45 seconds, bettering the old record, set in 2008, of 44.61.

Daniels also won the 200 in a wind-aided 23.13 seconds.

Jesse Vaughn won the men’s javelin in a personal-best 225 feet, and Elena Krechyk won the women’s hammer at 202 feet, 10 inches.

KU’s Demi Payne won the women’s pole vault at 13-41/4, Simpson won the long jump at a wind-aided 21-71/2 and Jessica Maroszek claimed the discus at 168-1.

Next for KU is the Kansas Relays, beginning Wednesday.
