Kansas baseball rocked by Shocks

? Wichita State left fielder Taylor Doggett went 3-for-3 and scored three runs, while starting pitcher Tobin Mateychick tossed six strong innings as the Shockers defeated Kansas University, 10-2, Wednesday night at Eck Stadium to sweep the season series.

KU fell to 12-21, while the Shockers improved to 21-15. The win provided Wichita State with its first season sweep over Kansas since 2008.

The Shockers scored five runs in the first four innings and broke the game open with four runs in the seventh off the Kansas bullpen.

Sophomore center fielder Tucker Tharp led the KU offense, going 2-for-4 with a double and run scored.

Senior third baseman Zac Elgie extended his hitting streak to a career-high nine games with a single in the seventh inning and came around to score the Jayhawks’ second run.

Senior catcher James Stanfield and junior first baseman Marasco contributed the two RBIs for the Jayhawks. Stanfield drove in Tucker Tharp on a sharp single after Tharp doubled in the sixth inning. Marasco ripped an RBI double in the seventh inning, driving in Elgie.

The Jayhawks will host second-ranked Texas A&M at 6 p.m. Friday.
