A Lecompton woman was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital early Wednesday after a two-vehicle accident in northwestern Douglas County, Undersheriff Steve Hornberger said.

Sheriff’s officers determined 18-year-old Austin Kelley, of Lecompton, fell asleep about 1 a.m. while driving north on County Road 1029 just south of Lecompton. Hornberger said her vehicle went into the west ditch. She woke up as she tried to regain control of the vehicle; it hit a road sign and sideswiped a vehicle headed south.

Kelley and her passenger were not injured. The driver of the southbound vehicle, Lauren Times, 21, of Lecompton, was taken to LMH for precautionary measures, the undersheriff said. Times’ two passengers were not injured. Times was treated and released from LMH, said Belinda Rehmer, a hospital spokeswoman.

There was no evidence she was impaired, but officers cited Kelley for transporting an open container in her vehicle and driving left of the center line, Hornberger said.

18 years old and an open container. Not such a good driver, eh? Glad she didn't kill someone.

I would assume the passenger was asleep also or not doing a good job of keeping the driver awake. Anyway glad nothing serious happened. Here of to many bad accidents with bad outcomes.

Austin is a good kid,her passenger was her 7 month old baby, she was headed home from a friends house that she was going to stay with that night but she ended up getting sick and wanted to go home,as for the empty bottle..she was the DD after the ku game the other night and had to take it away from someone and unfortunately forgot to take it out of the car,she is a single teen mom busting her a$$ to provide for her son to stay off welfare so before you start throwing stones look at your life first and see if your sh$ts perfect
