Judge orders probation for 19-year-old Lawrence man charged in fight

A Douglas County judge on Tuesday ordered a 19-year-old Lawrence man to serve one year on probation and pay $4,000 in restitution for hurting a man during a January fight at a Lawrence bar.

District Judge Kay Huff also said Michael S. Campbell would face a six-month jail sentence if he’s found to violate the terms of his probation. Campbell had pleaded no contest in March to misdemeanor battery. Prosecutors originally charged him with aggravated battery, a felony, accusing him of striking a 25-year-old Lawrence man in the face during a fight about 1 a.m. Jan. 22 at Cadillac Ranch, 2515 W. Sixth St. The victim went to Lawrence Memorial Hospital by a private vehicle, police said at the time.
