Kobach plans archery contest for kids

April 9, 2012

— Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach is planning an archery tournament for children later this month on the grounds of the governor's official residence.

The Ad Astra Archery Tournament is scheduled for April 21 at MacLennan Park in Topeka, which surrounds Cedar Crest, the governor's residence.

The tournament is open to students from kindergarten through 12th grade. Kobach, a hunter, says there will also be other activities, such as fishing in the ponds in the park.

The event also is being sponsored by Fort Hays State University and the Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism. The tournament takes its name from the state motto, "Ad Astra per Aspera," Latin for, "To the Stars with Difficulty."

Too good a straight line to pass up here. Will they use "illegal" immigrants or fraudulent voters as targets? The first would be relatively easy to find; the latter ???? Might have to substitute pictures of Unicorns, which are just about as common in Kansas.

Good point. I was thinking of that but didn't want to violate their copyright. Maybe the Gov can sponsor homeless games, where they can hunt each other on the Cedar Crest grounds?

Getting them ready for the Hunger Games.

observant: Dangnabit: You beat me to it!, William Borroughs had a similar experience shooting a apple off of his wife's head with a pistol! Outcome, not so good for wifey!
