A 38-year-old Lawrence man pleaded guilty Monday morning to indecent solicitation of a child in a sex crime case filed last September.
Timothy L. Turner entered the plea in front of Douglas County District Judge Sally Pokorny.
Turner also had been charged with aggravated indecent liberties, but that was dismissed as part of the plea agreement.
A 15-year-old girl testified at a November preliminary hearing that she and Turner had a sexual encounter on Sept. 9 at a house in south-central Lawrence. The girl said she had snuck out of a women’s shelter with a friend and met Turner when she got into a car driven by another man they met in downtown Lawrence.
The girl said she told Turner she was 15 and said she later became uncomfortable when she learned he was older than she originally believed. The girl testified she later returned to the shelter and eventually told a staff member there she had been raped, triggering a Lawrence police investigation.
Franklin County Attorney Heather Jones prosecuted the case at the request of Douglas County prosecutors.
Pokorny is scheduled to sentence Turner on April 30.

I will be the first to ask, why was this farmed out to a Franklin County DA? Did he work for the county?

I'd bet he was a previous client of our D.A., or someone in that office. In those situations, they'll bring in someone from a different office to prosecute.

Thanks, cleared that up and showed even more what kind of a "man" he is.

That's what you get when you hire a defense lawyer. We have several of those on the bench too. You can't be serious about prosecuting criminals when you spent the first part of your career getting them off.
