From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for April 4, 1912:

• “The annual spring vacation at the University of Kansas is now on. No classes will be held at the University until Monday. Many of the students who live at a distance left yesterday for their homes having been excused from classes so that they could reach their homes in time for a visit that would be worth while. The majority, however, left today while the weekend will find Lawrence almost deserted. Following the return of the students to Lawrence next week will come the busiest time of the school year. All the many activities that are attendant upon commencement time are being put under way…. Foremost in the minds of the students there looms one big specter, the ‘finals,’ the annual examination that will come before they can receive their degrees while for the underclassmen the examinations mean just as much.”
