Douglas County commissioners OK land purchase, Berry Plastics incentives
Douglas County is buying land necessary to enable location of a homeless shelter near the Douglas County Jail, while also implementing a series of incentives to help Berry Plastics add a warehouse northwest of Lawrence.
The decisions came Wednesday afternoon, as Douglas County commissioners:
• Agreed to buy land from Printing Solutions for $250,000. The property, east of the jail, is part of a larger plan to enable location of a homeless shelter nearby. The county eventually plans to own about 40 acres in the area, for future use by the Department of Public Works.
• Formally approved a series of agreements and arrangements associated with incentives for a new Berry Plastics warehouse, to be at 670 N. 1800 Road. The overall incentives package, valued at $431,000, was endorsed by commissioners earlier this year.
