More than 1,000 Lawrence Westar Energy customers are without power as of 1:15 p.m., according to Westar Energy's outage map.

The outages are clustered in north Lawrence, just past the Kansas River. The outage map also indicated about 600 outages northwest of Lawrence in Leavenworth County, affecting Linwood.

Erin La Row, Westar Energy Spokeswoman, said the outage started about 12:40 p.m. when an equipment failure caused problems with a breaker. La Row said they expect to have power restored by 2:15 p.m.
