Alec Baldwin returns to ‘SNL’

Alec Baldwin hosts “Saturday Night Live” (10:30 p.m., NBC) for the 16th time. That’s more than any other host in the history of the comedy showcase, now entering its 37th season. Radiohead appears as musical guest. It’s the band’s second time on the show.

• Who says print is dead? And who says HGTV doesn’t have a knack for self-promotion? An hour-long plug that tiptoes pretty darn close to infomercial, “HGTV: The Making of our Magazine” (6 p.m. Saturday) interviews the editors and writers of that new publication while frequently reminding us that it will be available on newsstands Oct. 4. There’s no guarantee that this will make for scintillating television. But for those of us still in the words-on-paper business, it’s nice to know that somebody’s paying attention.

• Folks who can’t wait till Monday for Fox’s “Terra Nova” should sample the time-travel fantasy “Morlocks” (8 p.m. Saturday, Syfy). In this shocker, a scientist perfects a time-travel device, only to discover that the future is pretty nasty and the Earth is overrun by humanoid mutants called Morlocks. Even worse, before he can put his contraption into reverse and get himself back to the present, some Morlocks come along for the ride. David Hewlett (“Stargate Atlantis”) stars.

Tonight’s other highlights

• College football action (7 p.m., ABC).

• A visit to a friend brings grim surprises on “Doctor Who” (8 p.m., BBC America).

• Scheduled on “48 Hours Mystery” (9 p.m., CBS): a new season of murder investigations.
