Topeka man arrested outside of Wal-Mart

September 16, 2011

A 23-year-old Topeka man was arrested Thursday after a struggle involving a knife outside of Walmart at 3300 Iowa. Employees had seen the man leave the building without paying for merchandise and tackled him after he tried to flee. The man then told the employees he had a gun, and tried to reach for something in his pocket. He was later found not to have a gun, but he did have a knife. Police officers were called to the scene shortly before 3:30 p.m. and arrested the man.

Are Wal-Mart employees required to physically attack anyone suspected of shoplifting?

Didn't an Wal-Mart employee get fired last year for trying to apprehend a thief at a store in another town?

By the way, haven't seen that laughable "security" car cruising the Wal-Mart parking lot the last few months. Did it end up in the demolition derby?

That reminds of a recent trip to Radio Shack. We went to purchase a security camera, (of all things) it was locked on the shelf. We waited for the 1 employee to finish with a customer. By the time he finished, we went to show him the item we wanted to PURCHASE, it was gone. There were only 2 other customers in the store, and they were together, leaving in a hurry. The employee then told us, they are not allowed to stop anyone suspected of stealing once they have left the store..... if they were still in the store with the item, it wouldn't be stealing... HELLO.... he didn't even call the police. We ended up going to another Radio Shack, (since that was the last camera they had at 23rd & Louisiana). The thieves probably ended up taking it to another store for a refund...

Look at the bright side, there's a chance the second store might not have had one if they hadn't just gotten one back and gave the "customer" a refund.
