Chris Redman has been appointed as the new Haskell Indian Nations University president.

Haskell Indian Nations University is looking to update its strategic plan to build a vision for success in the coming years.

Likely to be at or near the document’s core: cooperation, collaboration and other moving-toward-the-same-goal efforts.

“We’re trying to re-establish a sense of teamwork and a sense of community on campus,” said Chris Redman, the university’s new president, speaking to more than 120 Rotarians over lunch Monday at the Lawrence Holiday Inn, 200 McDonald Drive.

Redman, who started work as president in July, said that the school would be seeking consultants to help guide the university and its stakeholders — including the Haskell Board of Regents and American Indian tribes — through a process to identify where the school wants to go, and even how to get there.

He hopes to get the process started sometime this fall, and have it address accreditation and other issues.

Redman, who is pursuing a doctorate in education at Kansas University, said that Haskell would come out of the process with a strong identity and direction going forward.

“We can stand our ground,” he said, “and Haskell speaks for itself.”
