25 years ago: City pool enjoys record-setting year

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Sept. 11, 1986:

  • The Lawrence school district had agreed to a new contract with Haskell Indian Junior College regarding the use of Haskell’s football field. The new contract, effective immediately, raised the feel from $6,150 to $10,000 per year. In other school board action, a majority of the members supported a proposal to allow children of employees who didn’t live int eh district to attend Lawrence schools tuition-free.
  • The Lawrence Municipal Pool was able to report a record number of visitors during the past summer. The pool had enjoyed its highest attendance level in its 18-year history, according to the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department. Besides recording its one millionth customer on July 16, the pool had drawn 72,485 visitors over the summer.
