Lawrence man arrested after shotgun incident with police

A Lawrence man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at a Lawrence police officer.

Sgt. Randy Roberts, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department, said a motorist called Douglas County Dispatch to report a possible drunken driver about 2:17 a.m. The caller followed the driver to a residence on East 21st Terrace and Maple Lane and waited for a police officer. While the officer talked with the caller, a man came out of the residence and reportedly pointed a shotgun at them.

The officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, and he complied, Roberts said. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault and making criminal threats. He is being held at the Douglas County Jail.

The Lawrence Journal-World generally does not name suspects unless they are officially charged.
