Lawrence man arrested after shotgun incident with police

October 31, 2011

A Lawrence man was arrested early Sunday morning after he allegedly pointed a shotgun at a Lawrence police officer.

Sgt. Randy Roberts, a spokesman for the Lawrence Police Department, said a motorist called Douglas County Dispatch to report a possible drunken driver about 2:17 a.m. The caller followed the driver to a residence on East 21st Terrace and Maple Lane and waited for a police officer. While the officer talked with the caller, a man came out of the residence and reportedly pointed a shotgun at them.

The officer ordered the suspect to drop the weapon, and he complied, Roberts said. The suspect was arrested on suspicion of two counts of aggravated assault and making criminal threats. He is being held at the Douglas County Jail.

The Lawrence Journal-World generally does not name suspects unless they are officially charged.

I suggest the LKPD DUI Defense - "I was scared and shaken when I was followed to my home by person(s) unknown, who were then joined by others. I think it was a gang, they were dressed alike and wearing black boots. So, to calm my nerves, I took a couple shots of liquid courage and got out my trusty scatter gun to chase these scary stalking black-booted varmints from my property. I passed a self-administered horizontal nystagmus eye test by following a Natty Light at arms length, located my blunderbuss, driver's license and vehicle insurance card despite having bloodshot, watery eyes. I also did not fumble my shells or driver's license. I successfully Walk & Turned my way onto the porch, stood on one leg (Karate Kid ~ Crane Style) with the other approximately 6" off the ground like one of the Wallendas. Then, without warning, a swarm of hostile red dots appearred on my Center of Mass, I immediately and flawlessly followed verbals commands to stop, drop and roll clearly demonstrating that I was not impaired to the point I could not operate a motor vehicle even with intervening alcohol consumption."

Did an LPD Officer leave you stranded at the altar? I'm curious about the origin of your intense hatred of all things LPD.
