Tennis classes, leagues, lessons: The Jayhawk Tennis Center is enrolling for fall classes and lessons. JTC uses the Quick Start Tennis Program for ages 3-10 and offers a variety of classes, including Cardio Tennis, for all ages, from beginners to advanced players. Trail Hawks 10K: The Lawrence Trail Hawks will host the 3rd annual Sanders’ Saunter Heavy 10K Trail Run on Nov. 19 on Clinton Lake’s North Shore Trails. “Heavy” means the course is slightly longer than an official 10-kilometer race – about 6.5 miles. The race is a benefit run to raise money and awareness for Lawrence’s GaDuGi Safe Center for victims of sexual violence. Cheer openings: Lawrence Cheer Athletics has spaces available on the competitive dance and cheer teams for the 2011-2012 season. There are openings for the 11U, 14U, 18U and college cheer teams. Dance team spots are open for junior high, senior high and college teams in pom, jazz, lyrical and hip hop. Aquahawks trial: The Lawrence Aquahawks Swim Club is offering a two-week free swim trial that began Monday. New swimmers may come swim with the Aquahawks at the Indoor Aquatic Center at 4:30 p.m. New swimmers swim free during the weeks of Oct. 24-28 and Oct. 31-Nov. 4. Coaches will work with new swimmers on their swimming technique and introduce swimmers to competitive swimming. All ages and levels of swimmers are welcome. Baseball players sought: Former Kansas University assistant baseball coach Wilson Kilmer is seeking competitive players for a 17U summer baseball team to play in tournament and showcase events for 2012. Membership on the team will also include workouts preparing for the 2012 high school baseball season. No mass tryouts will be held. Lawrence High Winter Sports: The deadline to turn in winter sports athletic forms at LHS is Nov 9. Athletic forms are available at LHS or can be downloaded from the school website: www.lhs.ud497.org. The LHS winter sports informational meeting will be 6:30 p.m. on Nov. 9 in the LHS cafeteria.

Seal hole in one: Dave Seal used an 8-iron to record a hole-in-one on Oct. 23 on hole No. 11 at Lawrence Country Club. Witnesses were Cap Gray, Garth Terlizzi, Larry Keating and Randy Sneegass.

Franklin ace: Bob Franklin, of Baldwin, hit a hole-in-one on Wednesday at Eagle Bend Golf Course. Franklin used a 7-iron to ace the 127-yard, par-3 17th. Scott Holiday witnessed the shot.
