A 63-year-old Wichita man was arrested Saturday afternoon on suspicion of drunken driving after he ran over a female Kansas University student’s foot in the parking lot directly east of Memorial Stadium.

Capt. Schuyler Bailey, a KU police spokesman, said Casey Cox, 21, was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital. The driver, George Lawrence Sevick, was taken to the Douglas County Jail, posted $500 bond and was given notice to appear at 1 p.m. Nov. 2 in Lawrence Municipal Court on one count of operating a vehicle under the influence, according to jail records. The accident occurred at 3:05 p.m. after KU lost to Kansas State University in the Sunflower Showdown.

LMH spokeswoman Belinda Rehmer said Cox was treated and released from the hospital.

bigpimpin: Ditto your comment. If any KU students were still around, they were trying to scoop up some BB tickets. KU should start selling KU students discounted football tickets that requires them to sit for only the first half, since they leave anyway. Any wonder why KU is not a desired commodity in the conference realignment picture.

I was there and saw most of this. There actually were a lot of KU students there. Just because they weren't in the stadium doesn't mean they weren't in the parking lot. Tailgating was still going on. It looked like when he was ready to leave, he just pulled out into a large group of tailgaters, including students.

He knew when he parked there that he would be in a high traffic tailgating area.

This is just proof that Lawrence is going downhill. Trying to advertise Lawrence as a retirement town simply encourages elderly drunks to come to town. We need to protect the young people from such people. If he cannot handle his drinking and does not have the reflex speed to avoid running over a young girls feet in a parking lot, then he shouldn't be driving in Lawrence -- if anywhere.

I blame the girl. She should of known there would be drunks driving amok through the crowd and wear steel toes.

So, the driver is drunk, drives into a crowd of people, not everyone can get out of his way it time, therefore it is the person's fault that is unable to get out of the way. Is that what your saying?

What if it was that girl who ran over the old mans foot because she was drunk? what would you say then? Dont matter if your young or old most people still drink and drive. I say its both peoples fault since the girl for one could of saw the old man driving and moved out of the way. And the old man shouldnt have been driving drunk any ways.

Perhaps we should just go back to the good old days and outlaw drinking with Tailgating at KU. I'm sorry, but if you have to drink in order to have fun, then you have some serious issues. Of course...this will never happen, because the crowds at the football games would drop by two thirds...and with that said, so would the $$$ coming into KU Athletics. Maybe we'll have a Chancellor some day that doesn't kiss butt and give in to all the red tape.

If there was ever a time to allow alcohol at KU games it is now. In fact, if we want to continue to sell tickets, we should sell in inside the stadium.

"...if you have to drink in order to have fun, then you have some serious issues."

If you have to drink in order to have fun at a KU football game, then KU coaching staff has some serious issues.

Fixed.
