Former Journal-World staff member Rich Clarkson wins photography award
Rich Clarkson, a Lawrence native, on Monday received a Lucie Award, which celebrates achievements in photography throughout the world.
Clarkson, who started his career as a photographer at the Lawrence Journal-World, was recognized as one of six master photographers. The award, which was presented by the Lucie Foundation in Los Angeles, noted his achievement in sports photography.
Clarkson, who owns a Denver-based company, Rich Clarkson and Associates, graduated in 1956 with a journalism degree from Kansas University. He also has worked for the Topeka Capital-Journal, Sports Illustrated, the Denver Post and the National Geographic Society.
