From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 21, 1911:

“Tomorrow afternoon will mark a real epoch in the giving out of Sport News to the people of Lawrence by the Journal-World. Tomorrow afternoon the State University and the State Agricultural College play football at Manhattan. For that occasion the Journal-World is sending a special representative to Manhattan. The news of that game will be sent play by play DIRECTLY TO THIS OFFICE. As soon as the news arrives it will be bulletined and given out to the public…. Tomorrow afternoon, providing the weather is nice, Philadelphia and New York will play another game battling for the World’s Championship in that National pastime — Baseball. The baseball game news will start about 1:30, so continuously throughout the afternoon from 1:30 on, the Journal-World will furnish the most complete service ever heard of in Lawrence. Think of it! Tomorrow evening’s paper will contain the usual detailed account by innings and the story of what K.U. did at Manhattan.”
