40th annual Halloween paint-in set for Saturday morning; registration now open

Children and adults are invited to paint murals on downtown storefront windows Saturday morning in celebration of Halloween.

This marks the 40th anniversary of the event, and a commemorative T-shirt will be given away. Candy and apple cider will also be given out. Participants are asked to bring a pumpkin to paint as well.

The event is free, but registration is required and participants must submit a sketch of their planned murals. The sketch and registration form must be turned in by 6:30 p.m. Thursday to Holcom Park Recreation Center, 2700 W. 27th St.

Participants can find out which storefront window they have been assigned after 1 p.m. Friday by calling 832-7940. Check-in is 8 a.m. Saturday in the alley by Ernst & Son Hardware Store, 826 Mass.

The event is sponsored by the Lawrence Parks and Recreation Department, Breakfast Optimist Club and Downtown Lawrence Inc.
