KU volleyball falls to MU
Columbia, Mo. ? With head coach Ray Bechard mourning the death of his mother, Kansas University’s volleyball team dropped a four-set match to rival Missouri on Wednesday at Hearnes Center.
Bechard attended his mother’s funeral Wednesday morning, then traveled separately to Columbia to join his team.
The Jayhawks fell, 25-21, 26-24, 20-25, 28-26 in a match that featured 37 ties or lead changes.
Kansas fell to 12-6 overall, 0-5 in the Big 12. Missouri improved to 15-7, 2-4.
One match after breaking onto the Kansas all-time top-10 in career kills, senior outside hitter Allison Mayfield passed former Jayhawk Mary Beth Albrecht to become fifth-all time on the program’s career total attempts list, as she led the offense with 16 kills.
Mayfield led a balanced attack that included three Jayhawks with double-digit kills.
KU will travel to Norman, Okla., to face No. 22 Oklahoma on Saturday. Match time has been moved up two hours to 5 p.m.
