25 years ago: Babcock Place still needing repairs
From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Oct. 13, 1986:
In spite of 13 years of trial and error and about $500,000 in repairs, Babcock Place was still experiencing serious leaking problems. Barbara Huppee, the new executive director of the apartment project for the elderly at 17th and Massachusetts, had applied to the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development for $41,500 to make emergency repairs to eight apartments that were suffering from water seeping in through the exterior walls. The leaks, which were apparently limited to specific places in the building, had begun only two months after the first tenants had moved in in 1973.
