Man injured when vehicle hits him as he walks in alley near Ninth Street

A pedestrian was taken to Lawrence Memorial Hospital Tuesday evening after he was struck by a vehicle near Ninth and Vermont streets.

Sgt. Troy Squire, a Lawrence police spokesman, said the man had been walking north in the alley between Vermont and Kentucky streets about 5:30 p.m., and he was attempting to cross Ninth Street.

At the same time, the driver of a westbound vehicle turned south into the alley and struck the man, Squire said.

Squire identified the man as Jesse Woods, a 35-year-old Lawrence resident. Lawrence-Douglas County Fire Medical workers took him via ambulance to LMH.

Squire said police initially did not issue any citations, but officers were still investigating the incident.

LMH officials said Woods was treated and released by about 7:30 p.m.
