October 10, 2011

— Owners of the new casino at the Kansas Speedway are looking for nearly 1,000 employees.

A job fair for the Hollywood Casino is planned for this Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Overland Park Convention Center.

KSHB-TV reports that the casino complex will eventually include seven restaurants and lounges and more than 2,000 gaming machines.

Casino executive Dean Doria says open jobs include such things as food and beverage workers, environmental services and security officers.

The sad part is that none of these jobs will produce material goods; just service industry jobs. But, a job is a job. Wonder what the Environmental services jobs are; is that like HVAC maintenance?

Great. "THE MAN" gets filthy rich....and I get $13/hr......can you say NO THANK YOU!!

Nothing says you have to stay in a job for $13.00 and hour. Take some initiative and go find something that pays better.

Great attitude. I can think of a dozen who who jump at the chance to make $13/hr plus benefits rather than sitting at home on the couch.

Wow, half of the University's facility/janitorial staff will be bailing for one of these high paying jobs!

Darn, I was hoping that perhaps the casino need an environmental specialist, to monitor the air for the fumes that off gas from new carpets, wood, drywall and other building components.

not to mention the toxic fumes from the cancer sticks that all gamblers seem to use.
