Two Leavenworth men arrested in connection with gunfire near convenience store

Members of Lawrence Police Department were called to Presto Convenience Store, 1802 W. 23rd St., at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired.

Police searched for a gray Cadillac in connection with the shooting, and secured the car soon after on the 1800 block of 23rd St., according to a police officer.

Two Leavenworth men associated with the car were arrested.

The investigation was ongoing as of early Sunday morning, with police trying to determine whether the gunfire was directed at a person or had been fired into the air.

No one is known to have been injured by the gunfire.

The two suspects were booked into the Douglas County Jail at around 12:45 a.m., according to jail records. One man was being held on charges relating to the unlawful discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault. He was ordered held without bail.

The other man was booked with a charge of aiding a felon. He was ordered held on a $2000 bail. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.
