Two Leavenworth men arrested in connection with gunfire near convenience store

October 9, 2011

Members of Lawrence Police Department were called to Presto Convenience Store, 1802 W. 23rd St., at approximately 12:30 a.m. Sunday for a report of shots fired.

Police searched for a gray Cadillac in connection with the shooting, and secured the car soon after on the 1800 block of 23rd St., according to a police officer.

Two Leavenworth men associated with the car were arrested.

The investigation was ongoing as of early Sunday morning, with police trying to determine whether the gunfire was directed at a person or had been fired into the air.

No one is known to have been injured by the gunfire.

The two suspects were booked into the Douglas County Jail at around 12:45 a.m., according to jail records. One man was being held on charges relating to the unlawful discharge of a firearm and aggravated assault. He was ordered held without bail.

The other man was booked with a charge of aiding a felon. He was ordered held on a $2000 bail. The Journal-World generally does not identify suspects unless they are formally charged.

i drove by at that time and there were about 10 LPD, sheriff and highway patrol cars, saw one cop with gun drawn at a guy that looked like a hippie who had hands raised standing by an open door of a cadillac at the gas pumps. the caddie is still there now.

was it a different cadillac found an hour later?....this probably won't make any sense after this article is updated.

The car was secured in the 1800 block after a robbery at 1802. What doesn't make sense to you lunacy?
