Cystic Fibrosis Foundation seeking help for 2011 Northeast Kansas Great Strides Walk

The Cystic Fibrosis Foundation is looking for volunteers to support its 2011 Northeast Kansas Great Strides Walk on Saturday. The walk will take place at Sunflower School, 2521 Inverness Drive. Several volunteers are needed to help with a variety of tasks, including baking and donating cookies for the walkers, event setup, running the T-shirt and prize tables, supervising the kids’ corner, and providing granola bars and water bottles to the walkers along their route. Immediate needs

• Big Brothers Big Sisters is in need of 100 volunteers to help with the Rev it Up Hot Rod Festival at South Park on Saturday. Volunteers will set up and tear down the event, staff the registration and information booths, and sell food. • Dogtoberfest is in need of numerous volunteers to help with its event in South Park on Sunday. Dogtoberfest is a dog festival started just last year that raises money for and awareness of the Lawrence Humane Society and Lawrence Community Shelter. Volunteers are needed throughout the day for a variety of tasks, including overseeing activities, working the registration table, event setup, supervising the kids’ booth, and much more. • The East Lawrence Neighborhood Association is in need of volunteers to help with its East Lawrence Sidewalk Workday on Oct. 15. Volunteers will help remove soil and grass from several hundred feet of sidewalk in the 800 block of Connecticut Street. Work will begin at 9 a.m. and end at noon. • GaDuGi SafeCenter is looking for individual and group volunteers to help at its upcoming “Boo! 5K Run and Trunk or Treat” on Oct. 30 in North Lawrence.
