Topeka ? State ethics officials will hold a hearing on Oct. 26 on a complaint filed against state Rep. TerriLois Gregory that alleges she used public resources for political campaigning.

Gregory, R-Baldwin City, faces a maximum fine of $5,000 before the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission.

Gregory has admitted she made a mistake in requesting campaign contributions in a newsletter sent in a June email from her state account.

Kansas law prohibits state elected officials from using public funds, machinery, equipment, supplies or any governmental agency for campaign purposes.

The complaint against Gregory was filed by Kenny Johnston, executive director of the Kansas Democratic Party.

In the email, under the heading “How do we continue?” Gregory asked for contributions for her 2012 re-election campaign.

The newsletter was sent from her House of Representatives email account.

“I understand that state property must be respected and will ensure that this does not happen again,” Gregory said in a statement.
