25 years ago: Packer Plastics begins expansion project

From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 29, 1986:

  • Officials at the Packer Plastics plant in Lawrence announced that they were ready to begin construction on a 197,000-square-foot expansion project. Jim Schwartzburg, president of Packer, said that the company had obtained conventional financing for about $5.5 million to help fund part of the project.
  • Volunteers had gathered on the evening before Thanksgiving to slice up 10 turkeys and otherwise prepare for the free meal to be served by the Lawrence Interdenominational Nutrition Kitchen (LINK). The meal, which was to be served at the First Christian Church, was open to anyone needing warmth, fellowship, or just a good meal on the holiday.
