25 years ago: Pre-Christmas events to entertain downtown shoppers
From the Lawrence Daily Journal-World for Nov. 26, 1986:
Downtown Lawrence was beginning to look a lot like Christmas. Lights on the trees lining Massachusetts Street were to be illuminated on the upcoming weekend. Santa Claus was planning to ride into town in a horse-drawn carriage to meet Mayor Sandy Praeger at Ninth and Mass. Several school choirs were to be performing downtown, carriage rides were being offered, and free children’s movies, including “The Never Ending Story” and “Muppets Take Manhattan,” were to be screened at Liberty Hall and the Granada.
