12 cited for underage drinking violations in Saturday night sting

Officers with the Kansas Department of Revenue’s Alcohol Beverage Control division, Lawrence police and Kansas University police cited 12 people for underage drinking violations Saturday as part of the latest Fake ID 101 operation.

Some of the 12 people were cited on more than one charge, as 11 were accused of being minors in possession of alcohol and five were accused of carrying a fake ID. Officers also ticketed one person for furnishing alcohol to a minor and one person for consumption of alcohol in public, according to the New Tradition Coalition, which targets reducing underage drinking.

ABC officers also cited two bars, The Wheel and Cadillac Ranch, with administrative citations alleging staff members allowed minors to possess alcohol inside the bars.
